In this final course of the sequence you will examine the conceptual
framework and methodology of the various disciplines of the social sciences.
We will read and discuss texts that will examine the social and political
theories studied in previous classes through different eyes. Is it actually even
possible to study the social world objectively? Old questions will be raised and
old answers re-examined in the light of greater methodological awareness.
Readings include texts by Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, Karl Mannheim,
Michel Foucault, Paulo Freire, Sandra Harding, Genevieve Lloyd, and
Clifford Geertz.
